Dunki Movie Plot :

An aging Manu Randhawa flees from a London hospital and encounters immigration attorney Puru Patel. Puru facilitates her reunion with her former lover, Hardayal “Hardy” Singh Dhillon, in Laltu, Punjab. Hardy is overjoyed to hear from her after 25 years. She requests him to rendezvous in Dubai to facilitate her return to India via the Dunki route, as she faces challenges securing an Indian visa.

In 1995, Manu and her friends Buggu and Balli reside in Laltu, aspiring to immigrate to London for a better life. Despite their impoverished and uneducated backgrounds, they struggle to obtain visas until Hardy, a former army officer, arrives in their village. Manu’s brother Mahinder had saved Hardy’s life during combat, but Mahinder’s subsequent demise in an accident leaves Manu and her family in dire financial straits. Hardy pledges to assist Manu in reaching London in gratitude for her brother’s act of valor.

Realizing that passing the IELTS test enhances their chances of obtaining a UK student visa, they enroll in a coaching class where they encounter Sukhi. Sukhi is determined to journey to London to rescue his ex-girlfriend, Jassi, who was married off to an NRI man notorious for physically abusing her. While Balli successfully passes the exams, the rest of the group fails to do so.

Upon reaching London, Balli informs Sukhi of Jassi’s tragic suicide, prompting Sukhi to immolate himself in despair. Devastated by Sukhi’s death, Hardy makes a solemn decision to escort Manu and Buggu to London personally, opting for the perilous Dunki route. Enduring a harrowing journey through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey, during which three of their companions perish, they finally arrive in London.

In the metropolis, they encounter Balli, who works as a living statue. It dawns on them that Balli had deceived them with false promises of prosperity in the UK; instead, he struggles financially and resides with other undocumented immigrants.

Attorney Puru Patel suggests to Manu that she consider a fraudulent marriage as a convenient means to acquire UK citizenship. Reluctantly, she consents to marry a drug addict. During the wedding ceremony, Hardy becomes incensed when the addict tries to kiss her, leading to a physical altercation that culminates in their arrest. In court, Puru advises them to pursue asylum rights, asserting that their lives are imperiled in India. But being a former army officer, Hardy staunchly refuses to betray his allegiance to his country. However, the others agree to seek asylum and establish residency in England. Consequently, Hardy is repatriated to India, while the remainder attain British citizenship.

In the present, Manu confides in Hardy her desire to return home as she battles a terminal brain tumor. They endeavor to depart for India by concealing themselves in cargo containers, deceiving immigration authorities into believing they are Indian nationals traveling illicitly to London. Consequently, they are repatriated to India.

Upon arriving in Laltu, Manu is stunned to discover that Hardy never married, driven by his enduring affection for her. Shortly after he proposes, she succumbs to her illness. Overwhelmed with grief, Hardy places the engagement ring in her hands and embraces her, bidding his final farewell.
